A Simple Way to Stay Connected
WHAT IS GMRS?
The General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is a licensed radio service that uses handheld, mobile, and repeater-capable for short-distance two-way communications.
Unlike amateur (HAM) radio, you do not have to take an exam to receive a GMRS license.
Your GMRS License Goes Beyond Just You.
ONE LICENSE CAN COVER YOUR FAMILY
Under FCC rules, an individual GMRS license holder may allow members of their immediate family to operate GMRS stations under the authority of that license. The FCC definition includes a spouse, children, grandchildren, stepchildren, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
That makes GMRS particularly useful for developing a family emergency communication plan.
